Toka Trig to Leon Kinvig Hut, Ruahine Mountain Range

This is a true Ruahine weekend tramp a.k.a straight up followed by a straight down.  It took only 5 hours one way but felt like a lot more – and could hear an ominous grinding sound coming from my knee caps on the way home … damn this aging body!

Beautiful bush, beautiful ridge line scenery –  lovely!

Leon Kinvig Hut is small but easily squeezes in 8 for the night.  It only has an open fire so a bit smokey and cold through the evening but who’s complaining … dry and feed is all that matters!  Great swimming holes both up and down from the hut … also spotted a very noisey mating pair of Whio on one of them whom took exception to me having a swim in their hole.
